The Piscataquis Regional YMCA will be hosting a Firearms Hunter Safety online course this summer and fall. The summer class will be offered on Sunday, August 18 & the fall class will be offered on Sunday, October 20 from 8:30am to 4:00pm. The cost is $15 per person with the 10-12 year old’s needing a parent present and the 13-18 year old’s needing a parent signature to attend the course. Cancellations must be received within 7 days of the course in order to receive a full refund. The class is limited to 25 participants and registration will open starting on June 3. This is an online course that requires the students complete the knowledge portion of the course online as well as attend a skills and exam day that lasts about 7 hours. Students complete quizzes and exams as they do the online course and are provided with a voucher to attend the skills and exam day upon completion of the online exam. In the skills and exam session, students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a firearm, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit with appropriate contents and pass a 50 question test with a grade of at least 70%. Students must complete the online course and provide the voucher number to register for the Skills and Exam Day. Students must also bring the voucher to the class.
