The Piscataquis Regional YMCA will be hosting a Firearms Hunter Safety online course this fall with two classes being offered. The first class will be offered on Sunday, August 26 from 8:00am to 5:00pm and the second class will be offered on Sunday, October 7 from 8:00am to 5:00pm. The cost is $10 per person with the 10-12 year old’s needing a parent present and the 13-18 year old’s needing a parent signature to attend the course. Cancellations must be received within 7 days of the course in order to receive a refund. Each class is limited to 25 participants on a first come, first serve basis with registration now open. This is an online course that requires the students to complete the knowledge portion of the course online and attend a skills and exam day which is about seven hours. Students complete quizzes and exams as they do the online course and are provided with a voucher to attend the skills and exam day upon completion of the online exam. In the skills and exam session the students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a firearm, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit with the appropriate contents and pass a 50 question test with a grade of at least 70%. Students must complete the online course and provide the voucher number to register for the Skills and Exam Day. Students must also bring the voucher to the class.
